Oral Dental Care – Preventing Cavity Pain
Cavities, Cavities, Cavities, Can We Do Better With Oral Dental Health?
It was amazing to me that a little tooth could be so painful! OUCH! I had a seeming small little cavity between two back teeth. One thing lead to another and I found my head vibrating at the touch of the dental drill. Mind you, I had experienced no pain prior to the drill being put into my mouth. O-wait, the needle with the magic juice that makes you not actually feel what is happening was actually the first sign of pain.
Seriously though my dentist is a good friend of mine so I can throw him too far under the bus.
After all, the tooth would not have healed itself, right? Hum…
Here is an amazingly exciting video on the topic where I explain the few tidbits of information that I learned from this process that will help me and my family never have to experience that sort of pain again. Well, unless Nikki gets pregnant again. I hear that that sort of pain is similar to tooth pain…
So, here are some of the details as it relates to what I am now doing dental health wise. I won’t bore you with what I was doing because clearly it wasn’t enough. After all, I did end up with a cavity, right…
Seven Steps To Better Oral Health
1) Brushing. Yep – 3 times a day or after each major meal (which hopefully isn’t more than 2-3 times a day or maybe we need to talk about your diet…)
2) Tooth Paste. Well, I suppose you need it right? Someone said it is suppose to help. Be careful which brand you get though. We use Melaluca and that is an MLM so make sure to tell them we sent you:) Seriously, they have a great tooth paste and some other nice little products. Auto ship is nice at is just shows up. Enjoy that part.
3) Flossing. Awe-hu. At least once a day and make sure that you are using clean ingredient floss that doesn’t have any high fructose corn syrup on the string…
4) Fire. Well, yes. At the end of each day I insert a firing torch into my mouth and burn all the bacteria just before I go to sleep. Ok, not really but that is nearly what the combination of these three oils my scientist friend came up with. It is called Fire and it does burn the bugs (bacteria for those that are slow on the uptake like me). It is a combination of three different oils that I don’t have approval to share yet but maybe I will by the time you read this so let me know if you really, really want to know what to use to torch the bugs.
5) Sonicare. They really need to send me a check for this one. My family really likes it. The kids run around with these things hanging out of their mouth and guess what. Kudos to the Sonicare engineers because they actually designed in a timer to tell you when to shift from one section of your mouth to the other. My wife says her teeth feel like she just got a dental cleaning. Hum. I think the $40 was worth it.
6) Oral Hydration. What? Did I really say that. Yes, it is a little mechanism that you can attached to your shower head (or invite http://www.YellowVanHandyman.com over to do it for you). You can also plumb it in to the system which I am working on doing. Anyway, it is basically a little micro gum hose. The tip is really small and it can farm around your mouth like a little mini fire hydrant (hum, maybe I should use it after the Fire…) washing out all the food that gets stuck between the teeth and the gums. Did you know the gums are not really attached to the teeth for the first few millimeters? So, lots of food can get stuck down there. Gross but true. Hey, it is your body, not mine. Well, I suppose I have the same problem but I now have good oral hydration so…
7) Laser Treatment. So this one is about as off the hook as it gets but it is true. You know I would never tell you anything that wasn’t true. The main mechanism that I know of is the increase in cellular energy provided by the coherent light source. Studies back up the increase in ATP due to red and green lasers. It may have an effect on the meridians and balancing energy in the body as well, but that mechanism is a bit harder to track. Here is the promised link to check out the laser: http://renewalenterprises.com/zeropointlaser.html
Bonus information: One of the key things that I learned through the process of having a cavity carved out, a pulp cap installed and then a filling was that during the recovery process which takes about 10 days, I thought the tooth was really temperature sensitive but it is actually the blood supply that is really sensitive. For example, when I would go to bed at night, I would lay my head down and a minute later would start getting throbbing pain in my tooth. I thought it was because I was laying down so I tried to sit up. But, it didn’t actually have anything to do with the blood rushing to my head. It was because my sheets were cold which chilled my whole body and the lower temperature of the blood going to the tooth caused pain for some reason. So, if you are going through one of these, do all you can to try to maintain the temperature of your body/blood at a constant and comfortable level.
Bottom line is that we all can get a bit more serious about how we are caring for our teeth. If you would like to loose a few pounds, here is an idea. Stop short on the final 1/3 of your meal and spend the extra time cleaning your mouth up from the consumption experience:) I find that if I clean my mouth up after I eat, I am less likely to snack also because I don’t want to mess up the living room so to speak.
